On Heritage and Reconciliation

In this series of paintings honouring my birth culture and family who are no longer physically with me—I work to reconcile the experience of my childhood losses. Through research, sketching and painting I have come to recognise that my culture and rooats are still with me, woven into the person I am today. As I sketched and layered each stroke of paint: the faces of my people emerged, their spirits hidden in tubes of paint, waiting to be mixed and brought to life.

That is the beauty of heritage: it flows through your blood, and sometimes, it spills over onto your canvas.
